🇦🇷 Día de la Independencia (Independence Day of Argentina) 🇦🇷

Today is the Independence Day of La República Argentina (the Argentine Republic)!

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the 1816 Declaration of Independence of the United Provinces of South America, which is still one of Argentina’s official names.

To celebrate the bicentennial, I started off with a few Empanada de Carne(Empanadas are one of the national dishes)

Now for the main event! Argentina’s other national dish: Asado!

Asado refers to the cooking method, as well as the event surrounding the meal, just like how we use BBQ here in the States.

Here we have many varieties of meat, from sausage to chicken to Argentina’s favorite: Steak! And of course there’s also chimichurri sauce to go with it, as well as grilled vegetables, tomato onion salad, and fresh fruit.

Pair it all with a nice Malbec, which is definitely the most famous of Argentine wines, and dinner is complete (but not before dessert)!

For dessert, I made  a chocotorte (exactly what it sounds like) and then wash it down with Yerba Maté tea.

Maté is a tea made from the leaves of the holly family. It is traditionally made and drunk from a hollowed out gourd with a straw that filters out the leaves called a Bombilla.

Happy Independence Day Argentina!!
